Experiencing my sixties is proving interesting . In the last few years, I found myself unemployed, facing bankruptcy, helping my adult kids deal with real life, serious crisis of their own, acknowledging being in love for the second time in my life, married for the third time and for the first time in five years, truly feeling positive about being nudged into reinventing my life. I have experienced many of the life transitions that Boomers do – marrying young, having babies young, challenging marriages, the death of a spouse, remarrying (including stepchildren) and divorce, our children getting married and having children (or deciding not to), special needs grandchildren, parenting parents, end of life journeys with aging parents, unemployment due to the economy, job hunting as a boomer, new relationships … a myriad of “start overs” … and I seem to have landed on my feet with a smile and a positive outlook (can you say “Pollyanna”?).
After struggling for twenty years of my adult life with morbid obesity, I had RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery in 2005, and lost 95 pounds. I share my journey from morbid obesity in “Weight Loss Surgery Isn’t For Sissys” ~ because it isn’t!
My experiences have to amount to something positive – and just maybe my tales of the past, along with the adventures still to come – will ring a bell of familiarity to some, make one person realize they are not alone in their journey, educate, entertain, or even disdain others … the certain thing is that it is all real life. I still learn lessons from the experiences and people who have crossed and continue to cross my path in life.
The most important thing I have learned is to be grateful and joyful .. and I gratefully and joyfully share my life, wisdom, and questions with you .. with grace and humor, sadness and, at times, anger … and I always welcome your stories and comments …
Namaste … I honor YOU!

Love your blog — found you on Any Shiny Thing… you are such a positive, upbeat person (but you look about 12 .. are you sure you’re a boomer??) Can’t wait to read more…
Betty
Betty, thanks so much for checking out my little blog … I read a line in your blog intro about loss and figuring out we reach a point where we just need to roll with life, basically … that’s it … as my dad used to say, pull up your socks and keep on walking. Also, when I was going through my mom’s wallet after she passed away, there was a little cartoon folded up in her wallet that had the inimitable caption on it reading, “Pull up your big girl panties and DEAL WITH IT”! I figured out it was her last lesson to me.
I’ve just poked a bit around your blog but can already see I LIKE YOU!
Have a great weekend!
Compliments on being candid, honest and humane. Those of us who’ve had multiple challenging life experiences deserve to be heard – and hearing these stories confirms that we must cope and hope.
We would love you to do a guest blog on our Once Upon Our Times Blog. We will contact you. Thanks, Sharon & Cookie
